What can be considered the hallmark of civil wars? What paradigms of analysis do we need to understand them? What do the specific categories constructed to frame civil conflicts communicate and what do they conceal? How can we move beyond the regime of truth that these categories express, to address civil conflicts as social dynamics?

Roland Marchal will touch these issues while commenting on his research experience on civil conflicts in the Horn of Africa.
