There are some groups of scientists who, driven either by economic interests or outright prejudice, attempt to discredit the work of climate scientists by adopting disparate strategies. Climate scepticism then becomes the argumentative basis on which conspiracism is erected, i.e. the attribution to a few specific actors of the responsibility for making climate a weapon to centralise the power of states, large corporations, and other elites. Additionally, for conspirationists climate serves as a tool for creating an artificial scarcity of goods to favour a few privileged groups at the expense of other weaker and marginalised ones. This discourse is projected against science itself, seeing it as a co-conspirator of the occult actors of guilty global power who promote a new world order. The communication rift between science, politics and “the people” becomes the battleground within which conspiracism finds its raison d'être.
