Origins, developments and methodologies of research on violence against women and its prevention

Descrizione del progetto
The aim of the research is to retrace the path of psycho-socio-anthropological studies on violence against women, starting from the pioneering contributions formulated as early as the nineteenth century up to the present, including, where appropriate, other subjectivities exposed to gender violence.
Particular attention will be paid to the methodology of research, including the various forms of action research, prevention and promotion of well-being, health and safety.
We will therefore carry out an accurate bibliographic review, using the main digitized international databases, read and file articles and monographs on the history of thought, original works by authors of research on the subject, and any other type of documentation (primary or secondary) useful for the purpose of an accurate reconstruction of that path steps.
Finally, we will write a research report in which the following issues will be highlighted:
i) the main specific and recurrent problems encountered in doing empirical research (quantitative and qualitative) in this field and the proposed solutions;
ii) the modes of collecting data and documentation in order to promote: information systems; training and information campaigns; awareness of the public (general or specific ones, for example social and health workers, law enforcement agencies, etc.); coordination of organizations for the prevention, advocacy and protection of victims of violence;
iii) some criteria for the development of specific tools and methods of research, including innovative ones, suitable for: bringing out phenomena of hidden violence, hard-to-reach-victims; identifying the latent factors - individual, organizational, environmental (for example "dark sides" of social capital, family and community ties etc.) that produce conspiratorial situations and hinder their emergence.
