This seminar deals with the democracy transformations coping with the so-called ‘Climate Imperative’. Here, ‘Imperative’ carries the double meaning of both a biophysical and socio-political phenomenon. Rapid climate change is transforming the global political economy and altering the fundamental political arrangements of our world, processes we refer to as 'adaptation of the political’. Capitalism is a political system, not only an economic or technical one. Therefore, its modifications or replacements, whatever they may be, will also be political, not just technical.
Climate change poses political challenges for which the current order has no answer. The crisis lies precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appears (Gramsci).
